Module 5: Removal, Common Mistakes, Maintenance and Aftercare

Which remover to use on UV glue according to manufacturers, safe removal step by step, a fault-finding table, lamp maintenance and client aftercare.

Course: UV lamp and UV glue lash course · Module 5 of 5

To wrap up the course, we look at what happens after application: removing UV lash extensions without damaging the natural lashes, the typical faults of this system and how to fix them, how to look after your lamp and what aftercare to give your client. As throughout the course, processing times and directions for use always come from each product’s manufacturer.

Module objectives

  • Know which type of remover is compatible with your UV glue and how to check.
  • Carry out a safe full removal step by step.
  • Identify and fix the most common UV system mistakes.
  • Keep your lamp, pedal and glasses in good condition.
  • Give clients clear aftercare tailored to the glue you used.

Removing UV lash extensions: will your usual remover work?

The sources disagree here, because not all UV glues are the same:

ManufacturerWhat it says about removal
KA LashesIts FAQ says a regular lash remover can be used as usual
BeamlightSays extensions come off with a normal remover
Tatti LashesSells a dedicated cream remover for its UV glue
AugenmanufakturSells a UV cream remover which, according to the brand, works on both UV glue and classic adhesives and dissolves strongly cured bonds

The practical takeaway is simple: ask your UV glue manufacturer which remover it recommends. Our glue and liquids range includes cream and gel removers, but we cannot guarantee how they perform on a particular UV glue unless its manufacturer says so. If a remover does not dissolve the bond within its stated time, do not force it.

Processing times vary too: Tatti Lashes states 3–5 minutes for its UV remover and Augenmanufaktur 2–3 minutes for its own. Those figures belong to those products; yours is on its label.

Full removal step by step

This procedure summarises the directions for one UV cream remover (Tatti Lashes). Always adapt it to your own remover’s instructions:

  1. Patch test the remover if the manufacturer requires it (Tatti Lashes asks for one 24 hours beforehand).
  2. Apply gel pads under the lashes (see our accessories) and put a little remover in a glue palette or cup.
  3. Apply the remover with a micro brush along the extensions from root to tip, keeping it away from the waterline.
  4. Leave it for the time stated on your remover.
  5. Slide each extension off by sandwiching it between two micro brushes and moving from root to tip. If it does not slide, reapply and wait; never pull.
  6. Remove the excess with a damp cotton pad, then take off the gel pads.
  7. Final cleanse: Tatti Lashes suggests a foaming lash shampoo between damp cotton pads, then wiping away any residue.

Remover safety

  • Keep remover away from the eye. If it gets in, labels say to rinse with plenty of water and seek medical attention if irritation persists.
  • Only use properly labelled products from a known responsible company. Spain’s medicines agency (AEMPS) ordered the withdrawal of the professional remover Noa Nox Gel Remover because its composition could cause serious eye injury and contact with the user’s eyes could not be ruled out.
  • If there is any reaction during or after removal (intense itching, swelling, pain), the client should see a healthcare professional.

Common UV system faults and how to fix them

ProblemLikely causeWhat to do
Extension not set within the stated timeLamp and glue not compatible, wrong distance, bond outside the centre of the light or expired glueCheck compatibility (Module 1), distance and centring (Module 3); replace the glue if it has expired or been stored in the light
Bond looks cured but comes off earlyIncomplete cure: Incure Lab explains that with the wrong wavelength the adhesive can look cured without being cured throughConfirm the recommended wavelength on the glue’s datasheet
Glue drop hardens on the holderAmbient light or lamp light on the drop; Beamlight advises against clear or glass holdersUse an opaque holder, away from windows and the beam
Lashes stuck togetherIsolation released before the light went offHold isolation during curing; remove and redo
Client notices light or warmthInsufficient or badly placed protectionSwitch off, check pads or tape and the distance (Module 2)
Itchy or slightly puffy lids after appointmentsPossible reaction; London Lash treats this as a red flagStop applying and refer to a healthcare professional

Looking after the lamp, pedal and glasses

Your lamp’s manual is the first reference: it should tell you how to clean it and which parts you can touch. General maintenance guidance for UV LED equipment (Futurelight) agrees on:

  • Switching the unit off completely and letting it cool before cleaning.
  • Cleaning the emission window with a soft microfibre cloth to remove dust or residue that could block the light.
  • Checking the housing and connectors for dirt or damage.

As part of your hygiene routine:

  • Unplug the lamp before cleaning and never spray liquid directly onto it; if the manual allows you to disinfect the arm or pedal, use a dampened cloth.
  • Check the pedal cable and that the pedal does not stick.
  • Clean your glasses after every service and replace them if they are scratched or damaged.
  • Watch performance: if curing takes longer than usual with glue in good condition and at the correct distance, contact the seller. Do not compensate by moving the lamp closer.

Client aftercare

Aftercare depends on the glue. Tatti Lashes states that with its UV glue lashes can get wet straight away; with traditional glues, other brands ask clients to wait (Sugarlash PRO recommends a 24-hour break from water and steam). So:

  1. Give your glue manufacturer’s instructions in writing. If it does not specify, use the aftercare guidelines from the extensions course.
  2. Gentle daily cleansing with a dedicated lash shampoo, without rubbing.
  3. No pulling or picking at the extensions; removal always in the salon.
  4. Infills every few weeks based on your assessment.
  5. Warning signs: intense itching, swelling, pain or redness. The client should contact you for removal and see a healthcare professional.

Module summary

  • Remover compatibility depends on the UV glue: ask its manufacturer.
  • Removal with gel pads, remover along the extension, the manufacturer’s time and never pulling.
  • Most faults come down to compatibility, distance, centring, glue storage or isolation.
  • Keep the lamp clean and switched off while cleaning, check the pedal and glasses and never make up for lost performance by moving the light closer.
  • Aftercare depends on the glue: always give it in writing.

Self-assessment

Can you use any remover on UV glue extensions?

It depends on the glue: some manufacturers say a normal remover works and others sell a dedicated one. Ask your glue manufacturer.

An extension will not slide off after the processing time. What do you do?

Do not pull. Reapply remover and wait a little longer, always within the manufacturer’s directions.

Bonds look cured but come off within a few days. What do you check first?

The wavelength compatibility between lamp and glue, the distance and the condition of the glue.

When can the client get her lashes wet?

When the manufacturer of the glue you used says so: some UV glues allow it straight away while other adhesives ask clients to wait.
